Spruce, vibrant, cheerful and heartily healthy ‘like a butcher’s dog’, Marti Pellow certainly isn’t going to be glib enough to say he had a good 2020. But, musically, he did. And then some.

So in case anyone might’ve thought Pellow had had a bit of time on his hands, they’d be wrong. Because as well as his hugely successful ‘Lockdown Sessions’ – filmed in his home studio throughout the first lockdown as a way to keep in touch with his fans, and enjoyed by over 12 million of them – 2020 saw the musician push on to finish songs for Stargazer, his new album out on March 26^th on BMG. It’s the latest instalment in a remarkable solo career that’s seen him embark on a new project pretty much every other year since he left multi-platinum selling pop sensations Wet Wet Wet in 1999.

Or, to put it another way: Pellow has done more as a solo artist, for longer, than he did as frontman with the totemic pop band who dominated the British charts for large swathes of the Eighties and Nineties. And that includes a 15-week run at #1 on the UK singles chart in 1994 with their cover of Love Is All Around, famously taken from the soundtrack to Four Weddings and a Funeral.
